The details might vary from day to day, but the events never change. The events never change because people don’t change. I even get sick of myself when I see myself stuck back in a mire I thought I left behind. That’s evident in my last ‘aspie myths’ post entitled egocentricity.
People seem to be either on the defense or offense on just about everything under the sun. Politics, religion, neurological biases, and countless other agendas seem to do nothing but fuel arguments. I have yet to find a blog with comments where I actually see someone persuaded to change his mind by what he read an opponent said.
Anytime I’ve witnessed a person changing, it always happened privately and usually it took a long time. Those who change the least seem to argue the most. Debating is nothing like arguing. Debates are balanced, controlled fairly, and are organized. Arguing is simply blowing off steam. It’s the devil’s work.
Even God does not argue with his creation. Only people argue. It’s about as crazy as driving a fuel hog like a Hummer around in circles; filling up for more expensive fuel only to go back around the same course.
The closer it gets to election time, the less enjoyable blogs become (generally speaking). I’d love to hibernate until all this societal chaos is over. I’ve had my fill of Bush bashers and other unmentionables.
